This is a series of small cross-shaped sculptures created by artist Val Romanenko using mixed media techniques. At the heart of each piece lies a wooden carving depicting the face of Christ, encased in transparent or translucent epoxy resin. Pigments added to the resin create an abstract, often ethereal backdrop.
The sculptures resemble pendants or amulets, intended to be worn close to the body.
The distinct shape of the cross remains visible, though deliberately truncated, drawing the eye toward the central figure.
Christ emerges unmistakably as the focal point—recognizable by the subtle suggestion of a crown of thorns, evoked through the rough texture surrounding the head and carved accents. His face bears the marks of suffering, with the head gently bowed—a classical gesture in representations of the crucified Christ.
"God protects you. God is with you. "
The carving style privileges expression and emotional intensity over anatomical precision. The lines are intentionally rough, raw, and full of movement, heightening the drama and evoking deep pathos.
